​Skylanders: SWAP Force is the third main installment in the groundbreaking "toys-to-life" franchise, building upon the core action-adventure platforming gameplay with a brand-new ability: swapping character halves.

​Core Gameplay & Premise

• ​Genre: Action-Adventure Platformer / Toys-to-Life

• ​Required Accessory: A Portal of Power is required to play, as this is how the physical toys are brought into the game. (Note: The SWAP Force Portal of Power is specifically needed for the SWAP Force characters to work, as older portals are not compatible with the new technology).

• ​Plot: The villainous Kaos is back with a new plan to take over Skylands. The player, as the Portal Master, must control the Skylanders, specifically the new team known as the SWAP Force, to stop him.

• ​Jumping: A major new feature in this installment is the ability for Skylanders to jump, adding a new dimension to platforming and exploration that was not present in the first two games.

​The SWAP Force Innovation

​The defining feature of this game is the introduction of the SWAP Force Skylanders:

• ​Swapability: These special figures are separated at the waist, allowing you to mix and match their top and bottom halves with other SWAP Force figures. This creates 256 unique character combinations, each with different attack styles (from the top half) and movement abilities (from the bottom half).

• ​Movement Types: The bottom halves of the SWAP Force figures grant one of eight distinct movement types: Rocket, Spin, Dig, Stealth, Teleportation, Bounce, Speed, and Climb.

• ​SWAP Zones: Throughout the game, there are special areas called Swap Zones that can only be entered by a character with the corresponding bottom-half movement type, encouraging players to experiment with different combinations to unlock hidden content.

 Compatibility

• ​All older Skylanders figures (from Spyro's Adventure and Giants) are also compatible and fully playable in SWAP Force.
